Mama Loves All Her Babies the Same

One of the struggles I have when blogging about books here is my fear of appearing to favor some IVP titles over others. I have quite the opposite problem from that of another colleague in book publishing: the incomparable Bridget Jones.

Poll: Designing the LifeGuides in Depth Covers

In the spring, we’ll launch a new series — the LifeGuides in Depth Bible studies — for those who want to take their Bible study to a deeper level.

The first few volumes are almost complete, so we’re ready to finalize the cover design for the series. We’d love your input in helping us make the final decision. Take a look at the two design options (below) and vote for your favorite by Monday, September 3, 2012. (Please — one vote per person.)

What’s in it for you? The satisfaction of helping shape this series of books — and a chance at some prizes! We’ll draw four random winners from among those who enter:

  • Grand prize: A copy of each of the first four volumes (worth $64) in the LifeGuides in Depth series plus an IVP tote bag
  • Three only-slightly-less-grand prizes: An IVP tote bag

Please Note: You must enter your email address after voting to be registered for the prize drawing.

Fill out my online form.

Rules: One vote (and entry) allowed per person. You must enter your email address to enter (just so we can contact you if you win; we’ll ask the winners for their shipping info later). Employees of InterVarsity Press are ineligible.

Final Cover

Here's the final cover for Just Courage. Just Courage book cover image
I'd like to thank everyone who gave us feedback on the two covers we posted on this blog.

In the end we agreed with those of you who noted that the cover with the candle is somewhat similar to the author's other InterVarsity Press book, Good News About Injustice. Similar can be a positive thing to remind the reader of an author they've seen before--or it can be dull or even confusing. We don't want to reader to wonder whether the new book is the one they've read!

Some viewers pointed out that the second option, the door cover, was somewhat similar to Ruth Barton's cover for Sacred Rhythms. Thus in the end we went with something entirely different. Here it is!

I hope you enjoyed your peek into the cover selection process.

Vote for Your Favorite Cover

Here is an opportunity to get inside the publishing process! We have an upcoming book with Gary Haugen (author of Good News About Injustice) called Just Courage. We have two cover choices below. Please use the comments to tell us which one (the door cover or the candle cover) you like best and why!
