I'm new around here, so perhaps I should introduce myself.
I'm Jon Boyd, and I'm in my fourth month as InterVarsity Press's digital communications manager. I work with a cross-disciplinary team to bring you the IVP website and online store, social media, video and audio resources, and email newsletters. I love books, so I'm having a blast working in digital media to talk about books all day long. In fact, that's what this blog is about.
The title "Behind the Books" predates my arrival at the Press, but I couldn't be more pleased to live into it. I'll be posting here about books and the book business from the inside out — new books, old books, IVP books, others' books, paper books, digital books, you name it. I hope we'll have a good conversation, and I hope you'll stick around to find out what I have in mind.
But first, let me tell you some of the ground rules I'm setting for myself.
Yes, I work in a marketing-related field for a book publisher, but I'm not interested in this blog's being a place to spout nonsense — and I assume you aren't, either. To be more specific:
If I'm excited about something, I'll be as honest as I can about it. If I'm critical, I'll try to be nice about it (or hold my tongue). Naturally, I'm going to talk about IVP books a lot, a subject I'm honestly very interested in. Mostly, I'm sure, my tone will be appreciative, but the bottom line is that I hope I'll have interesting things to say, whatever the subject.
The things I say here about books (or anything else, for that matter) reflect my own opinions, not necessarily those of InterVarsity Press or InterVarsity Christian Fellowship. I think that's how it's got to be if we're to have an interesting conversation. If both my bosses and you can bear with me, I think we'll do just fine. :)
Sound good? I can't wait to hear what you think.
